THE ANSWER / weather

An international climate change conference held in New York City (9-23-14) featured many foreign dignitaries and heads of state, but was short on substance. And even though expectations were reportedly low President Obama personally represented the United States and touted the recent EPA rule changes on coal fired powerplants as a sign of U.S. commitment to reduce carbon emmissions. The real action, if there is any, will happen in late 2015 with the Paris International Climate Change Summit where representatives hope to replace the Kyoto accord that ended in 2012.

Certainly some action is better than none and any discussion beats silence, but what's going to be the takeaway... ?! .... TALK, TALK, TALK ... BLAH, BLAH, BLAH ... Be well assured that greedy self-absorbed SOBs and uninformed ideologues will push against any meaningful action even if they are relucantly coming on board with the idea of climate change, albeit kicking and screaming. Deep down I think many still harbor lingering doubt.

So 1st THINGS 1st

<< THE ANSWER >> must be unequivocal ... GLOBAL WARMING ... yes or no ??!! And note this has nothing to do with the cause!!

Don't get me wrong, scientists have measured the global temperature and it is reported to be around 57 degrees Farenheit and rising but how significant is the number?! More importantly how can a mean temperature represent the complexities of the deep ocean, the upper atmosphere, vast deserts, the South Pole, ect., ect.? In my opinion not very well.

The real answer resides in the proxy of global temperatrue ... ICE.

The intuitve answer leads us to understand that snow and ice means a lower global temperature. Then as the snow and ice increase an ICE AGE may ensue. GLOBAL WARMING on the other hand means less snow and ice; Higher sea levels and a host of other bad things. MEAN GLOBAL TEMERATURE who cares! Snow and ice .... is the ANSWER!

Hence a global survey ... HOW MANY CUBIC MILES OF SNOW AND ICE DOES THE EARTH HAVE AND HOW DOES IT VARYING OVER TIME?!
